About

Referral program software for B2B and services businesses with a CRM. $250/mo, 0% of revenue, full export (CSV, API, webhooks, audit logs), and a learning curve steep enough that it comes with a program advisor.

Referral Rock is a referral program for businesses that don't sell through a shopping cart: agencies, service firms, SaaS with a sales team, anyone whose "customer" is a relationship rather than an order. It's $250 a month before add-ons, it takes 0% of anything, it exports everything, and nearly every review, including the five-star ones, says the same thing about setup: it's a lot.

I haven't run a program on Referral Rock. This is a research listing, from referralrock.com (pricing, features, support centre) and reviews on Capterra and TrustRadius. Third-party claims are marked.

The history

Referral Rock was founded in 2014 and is based in the Washington DC area, in Alexandria, Virginia; its founder, Josh Ho, still runs it as far as I can tell. It's stayed independent and bootstrapped as far as I can find, which in a category full of PE-owned tools is a point in its favour: the pricing page has changed, but it's changed in public and the support centre still has the fossils of the old plan names.

The idea it's built on is older than software. The Tupperware party, which Brownie Wise turned into a sales system in the early 1950s, was a referral program: the host invites people she knows, the company rewards the host, and the product gets sold by trust instead of advertising. Referral Rock is that model with a dashboard. The "members" it prices on are the hosts, the "referrals" are the guests, and the rewards are the Tupperware. If your business grows by one happy customer introducing the next, this is the tooling for it, and the price reflects that it's a sales system, not a plugin.

Who it's for

B2B and services businesses with a CRM, a sales process, and customers worth asking for introductions: agencies, consultants, home services, financial services, SaaS with a sales-assisted motion. The integrations are HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho, Pipedrive and HighLevel, which tells you the room.

Companies that want partners and customers in one system. The "recruiter" seats are for people who bring members in (partners, account managers), separate from the members who refer.

Anyone who's been burned by a tool that keeps the data. Referral Rock's export is full: CSV, REST API, webhooks, audit logs.

Who should skip it

Ecommerce stores. The Shopify integration exists, but at $250 a month you're paying for a sales-system tool to do what Social Snowball does at checkout for the same price with less setup.

Anyone wanting an affiliate program rather than a referral program. Referral Rock does tiered rewards and 0% commission, but there's no affiliate marketplace, no multi-tier, and the per-member pricing is built for customers who refer occasionally, not affiliates who send traffic. A SaaS wanting affiliates is better on Rewardful or Reditus.

Anyone without a week for setup. Referral Rock assigns you a program advisor on the base plan because the learning curve is steep enough to need one. That's a feature and a warning in one sentence.

Anyone who needs 1099s handled. There's a $599 annual payment limit setting and nothing else documented for tax.

Pricing, decoded

  • Operator: $250 a month, 10% off on annual. 10,000 base members plus 1,000 rolling members a month, unlimited referrals, 10 admins, 10 recruiters, one program, a program advisor.
  • Add-ons: another 10,000 members, $125 a month. Another program, $100 a month. Ten more admin users, $50. Ten more recruiters, $50.
  • Multi-Org: from $1,000 a month. Enterprise: from $25,000 a year.
  • Month-to-month, 14-day trial, no free plan, 0% of referral revenue.

Payout costs: PayPal payouts $0.25 per transaction; Tango gift-card cancellations 25%; Wise at Wise's rates.

Worked example. A services firm running a customer referral program and a separate partner program, with a few thousand members: $250 plus $100 for the second program, so $350 a month, $4,200 a year, or about $3,780 on annual. One of the five-star Capterra reviews from 2024 called the per-program fee costly when it was $75. It's $100 now.

The members number is the thing to understand. "Rolling members" are the 1,000 you can add each month on top of the base, and they don't carry over. Don't use them in a quiet month, they're gone. It's a use-it-or-lose-it allowance, which is the same psychology as a gym membership: the plan is priced on what you could use, not on what you do. A program that adds 300 members a month is paying for 700 it will never use, and a program that lands 3,000 in a launch month will need the $125 add-on for one month and then not.

What it does well

The export. Full CSV, REST API, webhooks, audit logs. Of the referral tools in this directory, Referral Rock is the one where "your data" means your data. Compare UpPromote, where history export is undocumented, or Shopify Collabs, where there's no export at all.

Flexible rewards without a percentage fee. Tiered rewards, gift cards through Tango (including prepaid Mastercard), PayPal automated, Wise, coupons, manual. Rewarding both sides of a referral is standard. And Referral Rock takes nothing off the top, which at $250 a month for a program that generates $20,000 in referred business is a better deal than any percentage model.

The CRM integrations are the right ones for its customers: HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho, Pipedrive, HighLevel, with Klaviyo and Mailchimp for email and Zapier for everything else. A referral that lands as a lead in your CRM, with the referrer attached, is the whole point for a sales-led business.

Support gets consistent praise, even from reviewers complaining about the product. The program advisor is a human who's set up a lot of these.

Setup: 4 out of 5

The number one con across the reviews, including the ones that give it five stars, is the learning curve. A 2024 Capterra reviewer called the page builders outdated. A 2019 one called it complicated. A 2026 five-star review says steep learning curve in the same breath as recommending it. A TrustRadius reviewer in 2022 noted the Salesforce integration needs the top plan and there's no mobile app.

Budget: a kickoff with the advisor, then a couple of weeks of evenings configuring the program, the member portal, the reward rules and the CRM mapping. This isn't an install-and-go tool. It's closer to setting up a small CRM module.

Lock-in: 2 out of 5

What gets you out: everything exports, the API covers it, month-to-month billing, no percentage fee to reconcile. One of the cleanest exits in the referral category.

What keeps you in: the member portal is hosted by Referral Rock, so the links and the login go with the account. The reward and tier rules you've spent two weeks building don't map onto a simpler tool. And the sales process you've wired through the CRM integration has to be re-wired.

Two. Easy to leave with your data, and that's rarer than it should be.

Gotchas

  • $250 a month is the floor, and a second program is $100 more. Multi-program businesses should price that in before the trial.
  • Rolling members don't carry over. Use-it-or-lose-it, 1,000 a month.
  • Setup is a 4. Steep learning curve is the consensus, including in positive reviews.
  • No real tax handling. A $599 annual payment limit setting and nothing else.
  • Gift cards are limited to the payout currency's country. International members may be PayPal or Wise only.
  • Salesforce needs the top plan (third-party, TrustRadius 2022). Confirm which integrations are on Operator before you sign.
  • No mobile app, per the same reviewer.
  • Help centre references plans that don't exist. "Professional Plus" and "Engage Plus" are gone from the pricing page but still in the docs; if a support article names a plan, check it against the live page.
  • PayPal payouts cost $0.25 each; Tango cancellations cost 25%.
  • Stripe integration unverified. If you bill through Stripe and want revenue-based rewards, ask before buying.

Integrations

HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho, Pipedrive, HighLevel, Klaviyo, Mailchimp, Shopify, Zapier, GA4. WooCommerce via a third-party connector. REST API and webhooks on every plan.

Not supported, or unverified: Stripe (unverified), Paddle, Lemon Squeezy, any course platform, multi-tier.

If you're leaving

Export members, referrals and rewards to CSV, and pull the audit log while you still have it. Settle outstanding rewards, because the PayPal and Tango rails are yours to reconcile. Note the reward tiers and rules somewhere outside the tool, since the new tool will need them rebuilt by hand. Then redirect the member portal links, cancel the month, and expect no surprise fees, which is more than you can say for most of this category.

If that list reads like a month of your life, migrating a program without losing the affiliates is a service I offer.

Verdict

My opinion, labelled as such: for a B2B or services business that grows on introductions and runs a CRM, Referral Rock is the serious option, and the full export plus 0% fee make it one of the few tools here I'd call fairly priced at $250. The advisor-led setup is the honest acknowledgement that it's a system, not a widget.

It's the wrong tool for a store, and the wrong tool for an affiliate program. For checkout-driven referrals on Shopify, Social Snowball at the same price is live in an afternoon. For a SaaS that wants affiliates sending traffic, Rewardful on Stripe or Reditus with its B2B marketplace will cost a fifth as much and need a fifth of the setup. Pick Referral Rock when the referrer is a customer with a relationship, not an affiliate with a link.
