$250,000. That's roughly what I sold through JVZoo as a vendor, mostly around 2015.

I don't use it anymore, and I wouldn't launch a business on it today. Both of those facts are true at the same time, and the reasons are the useful part.

Who it's for

People selling to internet marketers. Software tools for marketers, training for marketers, templates for marketers. If your buyer reads launch emails and your plan involves joint-venture partners and a launch week, JVZoo is still built for exactly that.

Who should skip it

Anyone selling to a normal audience. Dentists, parents, photographers, SaaS customers. Your buyers aren't on JVZoo, your affiliates aren't on JVZoo, and your product page will sit beside things you don't want your brand near.

What it was like to use

Here's what JVZoo did better than anything I've used since. One transaction, split four ways, automatically. The buyer pays once. The money goes to me, to my JV partner, to the affiliate and to JVZoo, each in the agreed share, at the moment of sale. No invoices. No month-end. No "I'll send you your half on Friday."

If you've ever tried to run a 50/50 product partnership on a normal cart, you know how much friction that removes. You spend your time selling instead of reconciling. It's the reason I could do volume there with a partner and never once argue about money.

That's the one thing. Now the rest.

The affiliate marketplace is a mirage for new vendors. JVZoo lists your product where affiliates can find it. Affiliates apply. Lots of them. Most never send a single click. I had dozens approved who never drove a sale. The pattern I saw then, and the pattern the research shows now, is that JVZoo amplifies affiliates you already have. It doesn't find you new ones. Their own done-for-you onboarding is reserved for sellers already doing $250,000 a year. The platform rewards people who arrive with a crowd.

The reputation is earned. JVZoo and WarriorPlus both grew up in the make-money-online world, and the default product shape is a front end with seven or eight upsells behind it. That's not a knock on the software. It's who's there. If your product doesn't look like that, affiliates who live on JVZoo won't know what to do with it, and buyers who find you there will assume it does.

Lemon Squeezy feels like a different decade by comparison. Cleaner, calmer, built for SaaS. JVZoo feels like 2015 because, for the most part, it still is.

Pricing, decoded

Free to list. JVZoo takes 5% of gross on every sale. No monthly fee, no setup fee. On a $97 product that's $4.85 to JVZoo, then your affiliate's cut, then your processor's cut.

There are two ways money moves, and the difference matters more than the percentage.

Your own Stripe or PayPal. Money lands in your account at checkout. Affiliate commissions pay out instantly from your account, or on an optional 60-day delay. The delay requires a credit card on file, and if you miss paying an affiliate by 70 days, the ban is permanent. This is the flow I used, and it's the one where the four-way split happens.

JVZooPay. JVZoo holds the money and releases it to you within 30 days, "at JVZoo's sole and absolute discretion," per the terms. There's identity verification, a $50 minimum, a possible rolling reserve, and balances are forfeited after two years. A dormant account for six months can be terminated. If you take this route, you've handed the cash flow to the platform.

Pick the first one.

Lock-in: 2 out of 5

What gets you out: you keep your processor and your buyer data. The vendor agreement makes you an independent data controller, which means you can email your buyers and move them anywhere. Nothing technical ties you to JVZoo once the sale is done.

What keeps you in: your reputation and your launch history live there. Affiliates who've promoted you before find you in their JVZoo dashboard, not in their inbox. And if you're on JVZooPay, your balance is theirs until they release it.

Low score. JVZoo is easy to leave. The hard part is that you leave your crowd behind.

Gotchas

  • The affiliate pool is inbound only. Expect dozens of approvals and a handful of actual sellers. The sellers will be people you already know.
  • Delayed commissions need a card on file. Miss a payout by 70 days and you're banned for good.
  • JVZooPay is discretionary. Read "sole and absolute discretion" and "forfeited after two years" before you choose it.
  • Refund deficits. Owe more than $50 in refunds for 48 hours and JVZoo forces a card on file. 30 days unresolved is probation, 60 more is a ban.
  • Two sets of rules. The vendor agreement is dated 2020. The terms of service have been rewritten and mention Whop, Stripe and Veriff. Read both, because they don't match.
  • Liability cap is the lesser of $1,000 or six months of fees. If something goes wrong, that's your ceiling.
  • FTC compliance review on approval. Takes 24 to 48 hours. Income claims will get flagged.

Integrations

Stripe and PayPal as processors. Autoresponder connections for the usual email tools. An IPN for anything custom. This is a marketplace with a cart attached, not a tool that plugs into your stack.

If you're leaving

Export your buyer list. It's yours. Write to the affiliates who actually sold for you and get their email addresses directly, because the relationship you have with them exists only inside JVZoo's dashboard right now. If you have a JVZooPay balance, withdraw it before you go quiet, because six months of silence can close the account.

Verdict

JVZoo does one thing I still haven't seen done as well anywhere else: it splits a sale between partners at the moment it happens, with no accounting afterward. If you run launches to internet marketers with JV partners, that alone is worth the 5%.

For everyone else, the thing that made me $250,000 was the crowd I brought, not the platform I brought them to. JVZoo won't find you affiliates. It'll take a cut of the ones you found. And it'll put your product in a neighbourhood that tells your buyers something about you, whether or not it's true.
